R.I. casino foes rally forces

WARWICK, Rhode Island – As reported by the Kent County Daily Times: "The anti-casino coalition Save Our State, together with the anti-casino group We the People, held a unity rally in opposition to the proposed Harrah's West Warwick casino last night at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Warwick.

"'The future leaders of this state oppose a casino in this state because they know it doesn't benefit those people whose interests they want to serve; it benefits Harrah's,' said Sen. James Sheehan (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown), spokesperson for We the People.

"…The bipartisan gathering included Gov. Donald Carcieri, Lt. Gov. Charles Fogarty, former Gov. Lincoln Almond, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Warwick Ward 2 City Councilwoman and secretary of state candidate Sue Stenhouse, and Sen. Leonidas P. 'Lou' Raptakis (D- Dist. 33, Coventry, Warwick, West Warwick, East Greenwich) among other local leaders and officials…"
