Public Ambivalent about Michigan Casino Delay

MICHIGAN – As reported by the Battle Creek Enquirer: "A new delay in building the FireKeepers Casino in Emmett Township may not be stirring strong public reaction.

"In an unscientific but random sample of Battle Creek shoppers Saturday, ambivalence was the odds-on favorite.

"U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson has ordered the U.S. Interior Department to closely study how the casino would affect the area's environment. The study could delay opening the casino by one to two years.

"…'It doesn't matter to me,' said Millie VanKampen, a deli worker from Litchfield.

"…Outside Menards in Emmett Township, Paula Kelley, 35, a rental agent from Battle Creek, said building the casino or delaying it didn't really matter to her.

"…Beno Brice has never heard of the plans to build a casino near Battle Creek…"
