Protest over Philly casino leads to arrests12 December 2006HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Post-Gazette: "Harrisburg police arrested 18 members of Casino-Free Philadelphia today when they tried to enter the headquarters of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to demand more information about proposed casinos in Philadelphia. "More than 100 people approached the offices in the Strawberry Square office complex. City police arrested 18 of them for defiant trespass, including two protesters who use wheel chairs. "...The group also asked for a one-year delay in awarding casino licenses. They claim the time period for public comment was too short, there wasn't enough information about the proposals released to the public and proposals were changed significantly after the comment period ended..." |
