Proposed Texas track has big backers6 January 2009LANCASTER, Texas -- As reported by The Dallas Morning News: "A prominent Dallas businessman and a state legislator have entered the field to build a horse racing track just outside of Lancaster. "Dental clinic mogul David Alameel, his wife, Martha, and state Rep. Yvonne Davis have an application pending with the Texas Racing Commission as owners of Dallas City Limits Property Co. "Their proposal comes at a time when Texas horse racing is struggling, but industry officials statewide are hopeful that the Legislature might expand gambling at tracks in the session that starts next week. "Their application seeks the agency's approval to transfer ownership of the Austin Jockey Club, which owns the rights to build Longhorn Downs, a class 2 racetrack. The Austin Jockey Club's efforts to build similar tracks near Austin faltered..." |
