Problem Gambling on Rise in West Virginia22 June 2004WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the West Virginia Intelligencer: "…More West Virginians are suffering from addiction to gambling, according to the state Problem Gamblers Help Network. During March, the network, based in Charleston, received 155 calls for help. That's a single-month record. "Since the network was established in 2000, it has received 2,250 requests for assistance. Calls come from people who believe that gambling has established an unacceptable hold over them or from their families. "The problem has expanded to the point that the network needs more trained counselors to deal with it. The organization's goal is to have at least one trained counselor located within 30 miles of every state resident…" |
