Pro Bettor Banned from Station Casinos28 November 2002LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal: “A Henderson man who describes himself as a professional bettor said he has been barred from sports wagering at Stations Casinos properties after he refused a request to void a bet he had made on an NBA game. “Ron Boyles, 43, said he bet $2,200 on the Miami Heat plus 8 1/2 points against the Orlando Magic on Sunday at Green Valley Ranch, placing the wager about 15 minutes before tip-off. “Boyles said shortly after the game started, Green Valley Ranch sports book manager Kelly Downey asked him to void the bet after the casino learned that Magic stars Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill would not play. “…Despite their absence, the Magic won 77-75, but didn't cover the spread. “Boyles refused to void the bet and said Downey told him he would be barred from betting again in any Stations property by order of Art Manteris, the company's vice president of race and sports. “…Boyles said he went to Boulder Station on Monday to cash several winning tickets and was told he wasn't welcome to bet there anymore. He said the same thing happened at Sunset Station. “`If I was doing something shady or trying to screw them, I would have made the bet, taken my tickets and gotten out of there,’ Boyles said. `That's not what I did. I hung around the book to watch a couple of NFL games. I didn't know (McGrady was out) until Kelly Downey told me.’…” |
