Preakness Stakes horse race rescheduled for 3 October

16 May 2020

Another Triple Crown horse race has been postponed.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced on NBC TV today that the 145th running of the Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, 3 October at Pimlico Race Course, marking the first time since World War II that the race will not be run in June.

Back in March, the 146th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs was rescheduled from the first Saturday in May to 5 September.

“Under normal circumstances, I would be standing at Pimlico with you, presenting the Woodlawn trophy to the winner of the 145th Preakness Stakes,” Hogan said on the day in which the race was originally scheduled. “But as we all know, these are not ordinary circumstances. However, I am proud to make this announcement; on behalf of the state, the Maryland Jockey Club and Maryland’s historic racing industry, that Preakness 145 will be held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 3. We look forward to celebrating with you soon."
