Powerball Winning Streak

UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- There's a POWERBALL(R) winning streak going on that doesn't seem to be letting up. In the past nine months, eleven jackpots -- with an average annuity jackpot value of $63 million -- have been awarded to lucky winners across the country. To date, five jackpots have been awarded in 2005 -- a record for such a short period of time.

"This winning streak validates why this is America's game. We know people play to win and we are happy that Powerball can provide that winning experience," said Randy Davis, President, CEO of the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, and Chair of POWERBALL. "It looks like 2005 will be a lucky year for fans of our game. It's encouraging to see even more prizes claimed for consumers and an ever-growing number of state programs that benefit from POWERBALL revenues."

Most recently jackpot winners, Barbara and Craig Lennen of Elwood, Indiana, cashed in at nearly $20 million, continuing the winning streak. The current estimated jackpot is $18 million.

Since its introduction in 1992, the POWERBALL jackpot has been hit 167 times with 196 winning tickets, and has paid out jackpot prizes (both annuity and lump sum cash) totaling over $6 billion.

The largest POWERBALL(R) jackpot ever won by a single-ticket holder was $314.9 million by a West Virginia man in 2002 on Christmas Day. POWERBALL(R) is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
