Powerball Winner Takes Home Lump Sum Payment

NEW MEXICO – As reported by the Albuquerque Tribune: "…[John San Cartier] stood at the New Mexico Lottery offices, posing behind the oversized check wearing the giddy smile that generally comes with winning large sums of money like the $93.4 million Powerball jackpot he claimed.

"…He's taking the lump sum option of $52.2 million which, after taxes, equals a one-time wire transfer of $36 million.

"He spent the last week with lawyers and financial advisers. So far, his only guaranteed purchase is a college education for his children.

"He doesn't know if he'll keep his job, which includes training other airmen on things like air drops and cargo movement. He said he's 'still in negotiations' with the Air Force.

"…The radio delivered the news that the winning ticket was bought in New Mexico as he drove his child to school.

"Once he got home, he jumped online and looked up the number…"
