Powerball jackpot winner steps forward

NORTH CAROLINA – As reported by the North Carolina News Observer: "Nearly three months after buying a winning Powerball ticket worth tens of millions of dollars, Jackie Alston of Halifax claimed her prize today.

"Alston, 38, bought the winner of the Nov. 29 drawing at the Shell Travel World at Exit 168 on Interstate 95 in Halifax County, about 15 miles from the Virginia border.

"She quit her job as a corrections officer on Dec. 8.

"The prize is worth more than $74 million before taxes. If the player takes a one-time cash payment, it would be $36 million before taxes…"
