Powerball Jackpot Rises to $155 Million

UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game continues to grow. No one hit the jackpot Wednesday but 891,934 lucky players across the nation won a total of more than $7.2 million in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $155 million.

The cash option for the Saturday, May 21 drawing will be an estimated $87.8 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 7-13-17-20-35 and the Powerball was 35. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Seven players matched 5 white numbers and won $100,000. Their winning tickets were purchased in Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pennsylvania (2), and Tennessee.

Sixty lucky players matched four white balls and the Powerball and won $5,000. Five additional winners of that prize level also purchased the Power Play option and multiplied their winnings to $25,000!

More than 93,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prizes by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your Powerball winnings from 2 to 5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $36.1 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.
