Powerball Jackpot Reaches $52 Million

UNITED STATES –- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Even though the Powerball jackpot was not won Saturday, an incredible 72 players matched all 5 white balls to win $100,000 and another 14 won $500,000 due to the Power Play option. A total of 482,577 players across the nation won a total of more than $18.8 million in prizes in America's Game.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $52 million.

The cash option for the Wednesday, June 22 drawing will be an estimated $29.6 million.

The numbers drawn were 5, 8, 10, 16, 24 and the Powerball was 5. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

The 72 tickets that matched all 5 white numbers were sold in Arizona (6), Connecticut (2), DC (4), Idaho (2), Indiana (3), Kansas (3), Kentucky (5), Louisiana (3), Minnesota, Missouri (2), Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire (5), New Mexico, Pennsylvania (5), Rhode Island (5), South Carolina (4), South Dakota, Tennessee (7), Vermont, Wisconsin (5), and West Virginia (5). The fourteen additional winners of that prize level who also purchased the Power Play option for a total win of $500,000 were from Connecticut (2), Delaware, Louisiana, Pennsylvania (2), Rhode Island, South Carolina (6), and Tennessee.

Fifty-two players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Fourteen additional players of that prize level also matched the Power Play for a total win of $15,000.

More than 71,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from two to five times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $17.2 million in tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY2004. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
