Poll: Thailand's Euro 2004 Betting Up

THAILAND – As reported by the Bangkok Post: "Thais are expected to spend as much as 33 billion baht (US$810 million) betting on the Euro 2004 football tournament, according to a poll conducted by the Thai Farmers Bank Research Centre.

"While 20 billion baht was wagered during Euro 2000, and 30 billion baht during the 2002 World Cup, betting this year would reach 33 billion baht as the economy was stronger, the poll found.

"…Of the respondents surveyed by the centre, 62% said they would bet with friends, while about 37% said they would gamble at bookmakers…"
