Poll: Rhode Islanders Divided on Casino Plan16 June 2004PROVIDENCE, R.I. – As reported by the Associated Press: ``As the General Assembly approaches a decision on whether a proposal for a West Warwick casino will go to voters this fall, Rhode Islanders remain divided on the plan, according to poll results released Tuesday. ``The poll, by Brown University professor Darrell West, found 47 percent in favor of the casino plan, and 43 percent opposed. Another 10 percent were undecided. ``The margin of error for the poll, which was conducted June 12-14 and included 477 registered voters, was plus or minus five percentage points. ``Additionally, 55 percent of those surveyed believe a casino would benefit the state's economy, while 38 percent do not. ``If legislators agree to put the casino plan on the ballot, voters could weigh in on the proposal this November…" |
