Poll: R.I. casino proposal losing support

RHODE ISLAND – As reported by the Providence Journal: "The Narragansett Indian casino proposal is trailing by 14 points just three weeks from Election Day, according to a new Channel 12 (WPRI) poll of 402 likely Rhode Island voters, conducted by Fleming & Associates.

"Fifty-one percent of Rhode Island voters oppose allowing the tribe and its Las Vegas partner, Harrah's Entertainment, to build a casino in West Warwick; 37 percent favor the proposal and 12 percent are "not sure," according to the survey.

"…The survey shows the greatest support for the casino — Question 1 on the November ballot — is among younger voters. Voters ages 18 to 39 favor the casino 57 percent to 31, according to the survey.

"Voters ages 40 to 59 oppose the casino project, 48 percent to 38. Voters 60 and over are heavily against the proposal, 66 percent to 25…"
