Poll: Minnesotans Favor New Casino

MINNESOTA – As reported by the Minnesota Star Tribune: "Yielding to the temptation of a 'sin tax' as an answer to state budget woes, six of every 10 Minnesotans favor allowing a new casino to be located in the Twin Cities metro area to help balance the state budget. Almost half of all Minnesotans say they strongly support the idea, according to a Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.

"The results reflect a continuing and perhaps growing level of public comfort with the idea of expanding gambling in the state. That sentiment might be reaching the State Capitol.

"…Results from other questions in the Minnesota Poll, published in Sunday's Star Tribune, found that a large majority, 71 percent, favor using the proceeds from proposed slot machines at the Canterbury Park horse racing track to finance a Twins ballpark or a Vikings or Gophers stadium, one of the strongest endorsements of any suggested funding mechanism…"
