Poll: Lincoln Park Bettors Choose Resort Casino26 April 2004PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – As reported by the Kent County Daily Times: "A poll conducted by Lincoln Park shows that nine out of 10 of its bettors would bolt to a resort casino if one were built in West Warwick. "Not only that, but a full 50 percent of those who visit the park 25 times a year or more would visit the casino with the same frequency. "Not only would this reduce the number of people gambling at Lincoln, park officials say, but would also 'have a devastating effect on state revenues.' "According to a press release from Trainor Wendell Iamele, the firm that designed the survey, the state would see an estimated $150 million drop in income the year the casino opens and 'hundreds of millions more in the following years.' "… Michael Trainor, spokesman for the park, says the poll puts a lie to the claim by casino backers that a resort would compete with the similar casinos in Connecticut, not the smaller facilities in Newport and Lincoln…" |
