Poll: Iowans Don't Want More Casinos

IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Iowans have a message for lawmakers considering a major gambling expansion: The state doesn't need more casinos.

"A new Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows a 60 percent majority of the state's adults remain opposed to increasing the number of casinos beyond the 13 gambling venues that are currently licensed by the state.

"However, Iowans are warming up to the idea of allowing table games such as blackjack, craps and poker at racetrack casinos.

"The Iowa Poll, taken last week, shows 54 percent favor the addition of table games at Prairie Meadows in Altoona as well as racetrack casinos in Dubuque and Council Bluffs.

"…Opposition from Iowans as a whole to allowing more casinos has softened a little since September, when 69 percent of adults said they were opposed to issuing new licenses…"
