Poll: El Paso Voters Favor Casino

NEW MEXICO – As reported by the El Paso Times: "When Westsider Susan Saucedo lived in New Orleans, she had her choice of casinos.

"…Saucedo is one of a slim majority of El Paso County residents who support a proposed casino in Anthony, N.M., according to an El Paso Times/KVIA-ABC 7 Poll.

"Fifty-three percent of 300 registered voters surveyed favor the casino, while 38 percent oppose it. Nine percent were unsure.

"…The $62 million casino, proposed by the Jemez Pueblo and Circle P Investments, may be built on 124 acres at the northwest corner of Interstate 10 and O'Hara Road-State Highway 404.

"…Several Anthony merchants have backed the casino, which they hope will attract consumers to the area.

"…However, casino opponents say the poll shows how divided people are over the proposal…"
