Police Removed from Indiana Casinos

INDIANA – As reported by the Indianapolis Star: "State Police troopers would no longer patrol Indiana's riverboat casinos under legislation that's advancing to Gov. Mitch Daniels.

"Senate Bill 626 was approved 28-20 Wednesday and would shift about 100 troopers from casino duty to road patrols.

"The Indiana Gaming Commission would assume responsibility for policing the state's 10 riverboats, which would continue to reimburse the state for the cost of the law enforcement staff.

"…Daniels supports the move and is likely to sign the bill so more troopers can patrol Indiana roads. The bill also is supported by State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell.

"The bill also allows more Gaming Commission members to come from nonriverboat counties…"
