Police Charge Freed Man with Murder.20 September 2000LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Sept 19, 2000 – As reported by The Associated Press: “…Clark County prosecutors have obtained an arrest warrant for Michael Frimmel, 31, charging him with the Sept. 8 murder of Heather Vitarelli. The Maui, Hawaii, tourist was killed by a stray bullet while she stood in Harrah's casino. Frimmel was released Thursday on his own recognizance from the Clark County Detention Center because prosecutors had not yet filed a criminal complaint in the stolen credit card case on which he was being held. A day later, prosecutors charged Frimmel and Stephen Mullen with Vitarelli's murder, but Frimmel has not been found. Mullen, 32, has admitted he fired the shots that struck security guard Frank Willis, 43, and Vitarelli, a California State University-Hayward student. Police said Mullen fired the shots while security guards were trying to detain him as a suspect in several recent thefts inside the casino. Frimmel is accused of being Mullen's accomplice…” |
