Pokie money funds emergency center

NEW ZEALAND -- As reported by New Zealand Stuff: "A purpose-built $800,000 emergency operations centre for the Marlborough Sounds has received a big boost with a $100,000 donation from the pokies.

"This means the Picton centre now has all its funding in the bag or committed.

"The $100,000 Pub Charities gift, announced yesterday, was the largest single amount in the thousands of dollars spread around the region from the proceeds of gambling in pubs.

"Marty Fuller, chairman of the Picton Emergency Operations Centre Trust, said that with the $100,000 Pub Charities donation, $700,000 was in the kitty. A further $100,000, or what amount was needed to complete the building, had been pledged from an interested party, he said..."
