PokerStars takes aim at world record

22 December 2009

(PRESS RELEASE) -- PokerStars.com, the world's largest online poker site, is aiming once again to set a new official world record for the 'Largest Online Poker Tournament'. The site has already set the record twice – first in December last year when 35,000 players took to the tables and yet again in July when 65,000 players took part.

Sanctioned by the Guinness Book of World Records*, PokerStars' next attempt takes place on December 27 at 14:45 ET. The No-Limit Hold'Em tournament will have a buy-in of just $1 and, to add even more excitement, PokerStars is guaranteeing a first prize of $50,000 and a total prize pool of $300,000. The top 30,000 players will receive prize money.

Bryan Slick, PokerStars' Tournaments Team Leader said: "Players really enjoy these events, and so do we. There is a real thrill when the tournament begins and everyone realizes just how many people are taking part from all over the world."

Registration is open now under 'Tourney' > 'Special' of the PokerStars client, but stand warned - there is no late registration for this event so players must buy in before 14:45 ET on December 27.

In July, PokerStars set the existing record with players from 155 countries competing. The winner was '004 license' from South Carolina, USA; over 16,000 players made the money. *Official record verification with the Guinness World Records
