Pokerstars launches new high stakes TV show

30 April 2010

(PRESS RELEASE) --, the world's largest educational online poker site, has announced the launch of poker's newest television show, The Big Game. Do you have what it takes to enter the most exclusive poker club on the planet?

The Big Game is a high stakes cash game with a twist. A group of the world's best professional poker pros will be featured each week alongside top amateur players, plus one Loose Cannon; a qualifier from The Loose Cannon will be staked with $100,000 with which to take on the best players in the game. Players can get the chance to become a Loose Cannon by playing daily qualifiers on at 17:30, 19:30, 21:30 and 23:30 ET.

The one-hour TV shows, produced by M&M Productions and Hollybrook Regency, Inc (the same team that developed the hugely successful Million Dollar Challenge show last year) will be filmed from May in Las Vegas and broadcast on Fox TV affiliates five days a week starting June 14.

Each player will sit down with between $100,000 and $500,000 of their own money for the Texas hold'em cash game. The blinds will be $200/$400 with a $100 ante and each session will last for 150 hands. To encourage a bit of action, the Loose Cannon is permitted to keep anything he or she makes over the original $100,000 – so no risk, no reward. If they do make a profit the Loose Cannon then faces the decision to walk away with the profit, or return for one more make-or-break session to win more, or lose the lot!

A number of top poker players are already confirmed - sharks ready and willing to take on the Loose Cannon winners. They include Team Pros Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Jason Mercier, Barry Greenstein, Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer. Also at the table will be a SuperNova Elite, handpicked by Daniel Negreanu.

Negreanu said: "This show has all the necessary bells and whistles to make it a monster success on television. It's a cash game, which all die hard poker fans prefer and it's guaranteed to be action packed with the introduction of the Loose Cannon. For the viewer and fan, not only will they get an inside look into how pros think about the game, but they'll also get a chance to actually appear on the show. I can't wait to play!"

The show, presented by Amanda Leatherman, will include other key segments, such as interviews with Team pros where viewers will hear them talk about past big hands they've played and analyse the performance of the Loose Cannons, picking up on their strengths and their weaknesses. The features will also delve into the exciting lifestyles of the world's top poker players.

At the conclusion of the 12 weeks of programmes the Loose Cannon with the highest finishing total will win a NAPT Passport, a free pass into all North American Poker tour events for the next year. That should add a little more tension as the Loose Cannon thinks over a return to face the pros a second time.
