PokerStars Caribbean Adventure caps successful week18 January 2012(PRESS RELEASE) -- What a week! More than 40 different events, several high-profile winners, a couple of new names made, tens of millions of dollars on the table, and more sun and fun than you can shake a massive stick at. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure came and conquered once again. Now that the poker chips have been safely packed away for another year, what are the stories of the festival? On Friday the PCA Main Event champion was crowned and it came as something of a surprise to many. Among the assembled Team PokerStars Pros, online grinders and well-known poker faces, an amateur player by the name of John Dibella took the PCA crown for $1,775,000. His playing style was unconventional and lady luck was on his side, but Dibella – a 41-year-old stock trader from New York – played a great game to take first place away from established pro Faraz Jaka, who came third for $755,000, and online pro Kyle Julius, who finished second for $1,500,000. Twenty four hours later and there were eight different final-tablists sat down in the tournament room, ready to play out the $25,000 High Roller event that had been taking place since Thursday. Like the Main Event, it was another relative unknown that took the title, with Leonid Bilokur from the Ukraine emerging as champion after defeating Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel heads-up. Bilokur scooped the $1,134,930 top prize, while Duhamel had to settle for $634,550. But Duhamel was arguably the player of the PCA. In addition to the $635k he got for second place in the High Roller, the Canadian Team Pro achieved a third-place finish in the Super High Roller for $313,600, a first-place in a $5k NL Hold’em event for $239,830 and a fifth-place finish in a $5k NL Hold’em Turbo event for $17,990. In total he won more than $1.2 million across the 10-day festival, once again showing that the 2010 World Champion is more than just a one-hit wonder. There was joy for the five-man team from Peru in the World Cup of Poker VIII. They were vying for the lead throughout the contest and took the first place prize money of $90,000 (split five ways) after an excellent showing in the heads-up matches. Check out the PokerStars Blog for more on the WCP VIII final. Overall PCA key stats Total events: 41 Total prize pool: $22,415,560 Total winners (players who cashed) 642 The side events proved particularly popular this year with great turnouts for the High Roller, $10k Turbo and $1k ‘Win the Button’ event. In fact, 10 side events featured fields over 200 players and some exceeded 300, highlighting the incredible value of the PCA.
