Poker used to lure gamblers to racetrack

DETROIT -- As reported by the Detroit News: "Tired of losing customers to casinos, a Metro Detroit racetrack has come up with a novel way to win them back: poker.

"Northville Downs will try to beat the gambling palaces at their own game, no-limit Texas hold 'em.

"The harness track will begin offering the popular poker game Thursday, a track official said. It will run four days a week, from Thursdays through Sundays.

"State law prevents racetracks from offering casino-type gambling but Northville Downs is complying with the law by working with local charities..."
