Pocono Bets on Casinos28 August 2006PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Pocono Record: "…Two developers in the Pocono Mountains region have applied for the two stand-alone slots licenses to be awarded by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. "One would build a hotel and casino complex in Paradise Township on the site of the former Mount Airy Lodge, where heart-shaped bathtubs and top entertainment acts made it a signature attraction in the area until it closed in 1999. "The other would build a massive, billion-dollar resort with retail, golf and gaming on land where the existing Pocono Manor Resort stands, about five miles from Mount Airy in Tobyhanna Township. "Bob Uguccioni, executive director of the Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau, said there is 'no question' either of the projects would be good for the area. "The bureau, which represents Monroe, Carbon, Pike and Wayne counties, would promote gambling as an attraction much as it does activities such as skiing, he said. "…Both developers say their projects will draw more visitors than their rooms can hold, which should benefit area hotels and businesses…" |
