Plymouth repeals deal with tribe15 August 2007PLYMOUTH, California -- As reported by the Amador Ledger Dispatch: "The Plymouth City Council quietly revoked its municipal services agreement with an Indian tribe trying to build a casino near the city at its Thursday meeting. "The agreement was the subject of years of litigation, dating back to its approval at a special city council meeting more than three years ago that ultimately resulted in the recall of three council members, including the mayor. "The California Supreme Court upheld its decision that the MSA violated the California Environmental Quality Act in July, leading to the council's decision Aug. 9. "City Attorney Mike Dean told council members they were being given the opportunity to take a stand on the heated casino issue nearly four years after an earlier iteration delved the city into turmoil with its decision to approve the original MSA. "...After Dean's comments, the council unanimously approved the repeal without discussion..." |
