Plaza Hotel and Casino to open new event venue23 October 2018(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Plaza Hotel and Casino is bringing the western legacy back to where it all started – downtown Las Vegas – just in time for the 2018 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). Building on the success that its outdoor equestrian facility had last year, the Plaza is expanding the amenity and is making it the first and only permanent outdoor equestrian center in downtown Las Vegas. An official hotel sponsor of the NFR and exclusive Host Hotel for the Junior NFR, the Plaza’s new equestrian center will feature two outdoor arenas for roping practice and exercise during the rodeo. After NFR concludes, the Plaza’s equestrian center will become the city’s newest outdoor event venue diversifying the downtown experience and attracting more business and people to downtown Las Vegas year-round. “There is no better way to pay homage to our western history than to create a home for rodeo downtown, where Las Vegas got its start,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza. “However, this is not only about the rodeo. The Plaza’s new equestrian center is a testament to the continued growth of downtown. We look forward to welcoming a diverse schedule of outdoor events to the Plaza’s Core Arena and Equestrian Center beginning next year.” In this expanded equestrian center adjacent to the hotel/casino, the Plaza doubled the number of equine stalls to 200, 80 of which will be available for year-round use. During NFR, the facility will offer the largest stalls in the city and 24-hour onsite security and veterinarian services, making it easy for rodeo participants and enthusiasts to “kiss their horses goodnight,” knowing their animals will be safe while they enjoy their evening just steps away playing on the casino floor or having a delicious steak dinner at Oscar’s Steakhouse. In addition to the equestrian center, the Plaza has a full slate of rodeo related events during NFR. On Thursday, 13 December from 1 to 5 p.m., 75 performance horses of all disciplines will be auctioned off at the Diamonds in the Desert Horse Sale, a public live horse sale in the Plaza’s showroom reminiscent of the horse sales held at the property decades ago. The public as well as horse brokers and buyers from across the country are invited to attend the sale that will feature live and online bidding. Cornering the retail western fashion and apparel market, the Rodeo Fashion and Western Arts Expo will take over the Plaza’s convention space Dec. 6 – 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., where rodeo fans can shop from 75 vendors offering custom cowboy hats and other high quality, authentic western attire. As the rodeo industry today booms with more youth participants than ever before, the Plaza is proud to be the exclusive Host Hotel for the Junior NFR, offering participants and their families a variety of family-friendly entertainment, affordable dining and comfortable hotel accommodations. As the Junior NFR Host Hotel, several youth-focused events will also take place at the Plaza, such as national qualifier competitions in roping and steer wrestling. With nearly 170,000 people attending the NFR last year, the Plaza is creating unmatched reasons for more people to come to downtown Las Vegas during the industry’s biggest event. The expanded equestrian center coupled with free viewing parties, live entertainment, complimentary shuttles and numerous food and drink specials, the Plaza is not only the place to be for NFR but leading the resurgence of the western legacy in downtown Las Vegas. |
