Planner: Build Timeless Casinos19 October 2005BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun: "Most of the Coast's casino resorts built over the past decade are already "out of date," while European gambling houses are 'models that last forever,' urban planner Andres Duany said Tuesday. "Speaking at the Mississippi Renewal Forum, Duany challenged the casino industry and developers in general to build timeless landmarks as they replace what Hurricane Katrina destroyed. He said the Coast could take cues from Nice and Monte Carlo, where casinos are part of the urban fabric. "…His words were harsh, especially for the Isle of Capri, which hosted the forum. Describing the casino's new parking garage, he said, 'It doesn't even look like a military installation. It looks like an insult.'
