Pittsburgh group wants conditions on license18 December 2006PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Business Times: "The jockeying in the steeplechase for a casino license in Pittsburgh is going down to the wire. "With the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board prepared to award a license Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Gaming Task Force has asked the board to make the license conditional on improvements to the applicants' plans. "The Pittsburgh Gaming Task Force, a group of community leaders assembled in 2004 under the administration of former Mayor Tom Murphy, on Friday asked the state board to place conditions on the winning applicant that will force the applicant to provide better details about the casinos they will build and what economic development initiatives they plan. "…Although only two of the gaming applicants, St. Louis-based Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. and PITG Gaming LLC, have committed to spending $350 million to revitalize the Lower Hill, the gaming task force on Friday asked the board to mandate that all three applicants do so…" |
