Pittsburgh Bidders Not Dissuaded by Delays

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Business Times: "Saying they 'are in it to win it,' representatives of the three bidders vying for Pittsburgh's lone casino-operating license said they would not be dissuaded by the possibility of as much as a year's delay in awarding the license.

"The applicants made their first joint, public appearance Wednesday, outlining their plans in a moderated debate in front of an audience of property owners and developers at an International Council of Shopping Centers meeting.

"…The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is expected to award the license by Dec. 28. However, there could be a delay.

"The board has not reached a decision on awarding licenses to suppliers, the middlemen who will buy slot machines from manufacturers and sell them to casinos. Casinos can't be licensed until 90 days after suppliers are licensed.

"If the gaming board does not resolve the supplier situation by its June 28 meeting, another state agency, the Intergovernmental Regulatory Review Commission, will get involved in the process. That would delay the licensing process, a spokesman for gaming control board chairman Tad Decker said…"
