Pimlico Expected to Break Record

MARYLAND – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Officials from the Maryland Jockey Club are looking to capitalize on the craze that has hit the Philadelphia area over Smarty Jones and expect a record crowd to pack Pimlico Race Course on Saturday when the colt goes for the second leg of the Triple Crown in the 129th running of the Preakness Stakes (G1).

"The largest crowd in Preakness history was 104,454 that turned out in 2001, when Point Given rebounded from a disappointing Kentucky Derby (G1) effort and won the 1 3/16-mile race.

"…'We're going to smash that figure easily. People from Philly have been calling here nonstop,' Mike Gathagan, Pimlico director of communications, told the Philadelphia Inquirer…"
