Philippines casino gets picketers

ANGELES CITY, Philippines -- As reported by the Philippines Daily Star: "Officials and students of the Angeles University Foundation on Wednesday began holding pickets in front of a casino that is scheduled to open tomorrow at the city's University Belt.

"'We cannot tolerate this, having a casino near academic institutions,' Dr. Emmanuel Angeles, AUF chancellor, said in an interview.

"...The AUF is also set to file a petition for a temporary restraining order against Emaja Internet Gaming.

"...Flyers that Emaja has been distributing in the commercial district of nearby Balibago carried the logo of the state-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. and announced that the casino had slot machines, and games of baccarat, black jack and roulette.

"...Emaja's owner, Emmanuel Jacinto, said Pagcor's senior vice president Rene Figueroa had issued him a certificate to operate two weeks ago..."
