Philadephia residents question casino projects

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania -- As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer: "The question that has vexed many Philadelphians for months is now also on the minds of Harrisburg gaming regulators: What's going on with the city's two casino projects?

"On Wednesday, the seven-member Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will ask the investors behind the proposed Foxwoods and SugarHouse slots parlors for status reports.

"'A lot of people want to know what's going on in Philly and why haven't the casinos been built,' Doug Sherman, acting chief counsel of the Gaming Control Board, said in an interview yesterday.

"The questioning will be part of a regularly scheduled board meeting and not a formal hearing with public comment, he said.

"A busload of casino opponents will travel to Harrisburg for the meeting, according to Paul Boni, an attorney for the anti-casino coalition Casino-Free Philadelphia..."
