Philadelphia Casino Dream Halted

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Pat Croce's dream of turning the old Adam's Mark Hotel on City Avenue into a casino came to an end today after Target Corp. told city leaders it would not sell the land.

"Besides, Croce said, community outcry had prompted him to think again.

"…Croce is one of dozens of investors, developers and influential business people in the city who are looking to win the right site and corporate casino partner to vie for one of 14 slots licenses the state gambling board will beginning handing out in 2007.

"Croce had been trying to buy the land from Target after hearing that it was being studied as a potential casino site by Mayor Street's gambling advisory task force. Earlier this month, Croce, a former co-owner of the 76ers, said he planned to build a casino in the city along with several high-profile entertainers and sports stars, but declined to name his partners…"
