Petty crime up around Pennsylvania casinos14 August 2007PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the New Jersey News-Express: "Preliminary figures show theft, public drunkenness and underage gaming increased after new casinos opened, state gaming control board spokesman Doug Harbach told local officials Monday. "'There really has been very little besides that,' Harbach said. "...Harbach gave the report during a Northampton County Gambling Impact Study Committee meeting. The committee includes residents, a county councilman, department directors and an assistant district attorney. "The casinos each have 14 plainclothes state police officers and five representatives from the gaming control board on staff, Harbach said. State police have jurisdiction only within the licensed area and the arrests are prosecuted through the county..." |
