Peppermills hosts winery meal

6 September 2007

NEVADA -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Since 1896, five generations of the Martinelli family have worked together producing wine in Sonoma County. On Monday, Sept. 24 the Martinelli Winery will be featured in the Peppermill's White Orchid. The evening begins at 6:30 with dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $95.00 per guest. For further information or to make a reservation please call (775) 689-7300.

White Orchid Chef de Cuisine, Roger Morris, has created a six-course dinner that pairs each course with one of the wonderful Martinelli Wines.

The Martinelli story begins in 1895 when at the ages of 19 and 16, Giuseppe Martinelli and Luisa Vellutini eloped from Italy, making their way to California looking for a farm to start a winery. Within a few years, Martinelli earned enough money to purchase land in Green Valley. The land includes a rugged 60 degree slope the family calls "Jackass Hill." More than 100 years later, the slope remains the steepest non-terraced vineyard in Sonoma County. Over the years, the winery has been passed down to Martinelli's son Leno, and then to his son Lee Sr. Today, Lee Sr. and his two sons, Lee Jr. and George, still use the family's winemaking secrets to grow and hand pick the grapes at their farms in Green Valley and the Russian River Valley.

The Martinelli Winery offers a range of wines from Chardonnay to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The wine maker dinner will be hosted by Lee Sr.'s daughter Julianna Martinelli.
