Pennsylvanians Angry Over Slot Provision

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune: "The muggy air in the Woodland Hills High School auditorium did nothing to dampen Anna Chorazy's anger over the provision in the recently enacted slot machine legislation allowing state lawmakers to hold a 1 percent stake in gambling companies.

"Legislators could make millions, said Chorazy, 68, of Forest Hills.

"…Chorazy threatened to launch a grassroots campaign against anyone who voted for slots unless legislators eliminate the provision.

"…Her remarks elicited cheers from the crowd of about 175, which included county department directors, local officials and state legislators. Last night was the second in a series of town hall meetings Onorato is planning for different regions in the county.

"State Sen. Sean Logan, D-Monroeville, said lawmakers could accidentally run afoul of a hastily crafted ban if, for instance, they invested in a mutual fund that, unbeknownst to them, owned some stock in a company that makes slot machines or operates casinos…"
