Pennsylvania, Utah Governors Make Friendly Wager

17 December 2004

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Utah Governor Olene Walker today struck a friendly wager on the New Year's Day Fiesta Bowl game between the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Utah's Utes.

Governor Rendell wagered a weekend getaway anywhere in historic Pennsylvania while Governor Walker put up a weekend at Utah's Park City Ski Resort. In the unlikely event of a Utah victory, Governor Rendell has asked University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg to choose a Pitt student to take the trip in the Governor's place.

"I appreciate Governor Walker's wager and look forward to sending a lucky student out to enjoy it," said Rendell. "Since Pennsylvania has so much to offer visitors, I decided to allow Governor Walker to choose her own destination, whether historic and scenic Route 6, Gettysburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia or somewhere in between. Although, despite the Utes' remarkable undefeated season, I don't expect to have to pay off."
