Pennsylvania Township to Vote for Gambling Referendum

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – As reported by the (Pennsylvania) Express-Times: "Church bingo and certain other small games of chance will become legal in the township if residents vote in favor of a referendum on the upcoming primary ballot.

"Township supervisors unanimously approved adding the referendum question to the ballot during a Tuesday night meeting. If passed by the voters, the township would join the overwhelming majority of other municipalities across the state that have enjoyed the privilege for years.

"State legislation was passed in 1988 that allowed individual municipalities to legalize the games if local voters wanted to do so. Township voters didn't want to do so, and shot down the referendum when it appeared on their ballot one year later.

"Township supervisors brought back the issue last year, and contacted the Northampton County Elections Commission about getting the referendum question on the ballot…"
