Pennsylvania Study: No Gambling Windfall for Bucks County

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Bucks County Courier Times: "Because Bucks County is rich compared with the rest of the state, most county homeowners would see only the minimum 10 to 15 percent cut in school property tax if gambling is legalized, according to a new study.

"The nonpartisan Pennsylvania Economy League study shows the average household in the Neshaminy School District would save $311, or 10 percent, of its school property tax with slot revenue of $600 million a year. The $600 million is the minimum amount needed to trigger tax cuts.

"Only property owners in three area municipalities would get bigger tax reductions, according to the study, which will be released today: Bensalem, 11 percent; Bristol Borough, 18 percent; and Bristol Township, 12 percent.

"…The league's figures are by no means carved in stone, because as of yesterday, the legislature hadn't even agreed to a tax-relief formula…"
