Pennsylvania Slot Parlor Benefits Vary8 July 2005PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Gettysburg Times: "Whether a slots parlor in Gettysburg would be helpful to tourism marketers seems to be largely dependent on what the state does with its share of the revenue. "In Dover, Delaware, home to three so-called 'racinos' — combination race track and casino — CVB executive director Mary Skelton said her organization receives no money from gambling proceeds; CVB funding is 'only through the lodging tax.' "Wheeling, W.Va. CVB executive director Frank O'Brien found his advertising budget more than doubled with 50 percent matching state grants from taxes paid by harness and Greyhound racing and slot machine facilities in Ohio County. "…He said the Wheeling CVB does not specifically market the casinos, but includes them in its lists of attractions. "…Still, the bureau's primary effort is to market the other features, leaving to the gambling facilities their willing responsibility to market their attraction…" |
