Pennsylvania senate approves casino amendment

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Pittsburgh Business Times: "The Pennsylvania State Senate voted unanimously last night to remove controversial features of the 2004 law that legalized casino gaming in Pennsylvania, with a vote on the amendment due today in the House of Representatives.

"Some of the key reforms to the law include: allowing Allegheny County to regulate smoking in casinos; a provision that would make the decision to use slots suppliers optional for casino owners; and the delegation of zoning control over casino construction to local government authorities rather than the state gaming board.

"The co-chair of the local nonprofit studying the impact of gaming on Pittsburgh hailed the changes in the law as a step in the right direction…"
