Pennsylvania racetrack heads to court

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the New Castle News: "The Pennsylvania Supreme Court could be hearing arguments from western Pennsylvania's competing racetrack developers by May.

"A ruling from the high court — directing the Pennsylvania State Harness Track Commission to reconsider one or both applications for a racetrack-casino — could come by August.

"In November 2005, the commission rejected applications from Bedford Downs and Valley View Downs. Both appealed to Commonwealth Court which in June ordered the commission to reconsider Bedford's application. However, the court let stand the commission's rejection of Valley View.

"The state supreme court Friday agreed to hear the commission's appeal and a limited appeal by Valley View, which is proposing a $340 million harness racing track-casino complex in Beaver County…"
