Pennsylvania police unable to patrol casinos10 March 2008HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Citizens Voice: "Adding to an ever expanding list of duties over the past decade, the Pennsylvania state police is providing security at the state's seven casinos. "The requirement to have state police troopers on patrol at the casinos dates from the 2004 slots enabling act. "But the issue facing lawmakers as the state budget debate heats up is how to provide patrols 24/7, which are the hours casinos stay open. "State police say they will no longer be able to provide round-the-clock coverage at six casinos, including Mount Airy Casino Resort in Paradise Township, and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Plains Township, starting March 24. "...In an appearance last week before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Col. Jeffrey Miller, the state police commissioner, said he needs an authorization of $17.5 million to provide 24/7 coverage..." |
