Pennsylvania Official Supports Ruling

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Gov. Edward G. Rendell's Chief of Staff John H. Estey issued the following statement today after the PA Supreme Court issued a ruling in Pennsylvanians Against Gambling Expansion Fund, Inc. Et Al., v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Et Al., upholding Act 71, which expanded gaming in Pennsylvania:

"The Administration is incredibly pleased that the Supreme Court upheld the majority of Act 71, which legalizes slot machine gaming in the commonwealth. It is a complete vindication of the Act, the process and the hard work and thoughtful drafting that many people put into creating this bill.

"The items that the Supreme Court struck down are easily remedied, though we may not be able to complete work on the necessary solutions before the legislature breaks for the summer. We are looking forward to working with the legislature in the same bipartisan fashion that led to the signing of this historic legislation last summer.

"Now that this challenge has been resolved, we anticipate that the Gaming Control Board will move forward expeditiously to hire the personnel and to develop the processes necessary to issue gaming licenses - and begin supporting the Property Tax Relief Fund - as soon as possible."
