Pennsylvania House Speaker: Commission Choices Need Rethinking

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Associated Press: "State House Speaker John Perzel said Gov. Ed Rendell should "rethink" his decision to appoint former Philadelphia police captain Frank Friel as chairman of the new Gaming Control Board.

"Friel was accused in a 1974 state Crime Commission report of being among dozens of police officers who took money from a club owner. Friel denied any wrongdoing and said he had truthfully testified before a grand jury that never filed criminal charges.

"Perzel said he will talk with Rendell about Friel next week, after Perzel returns from the Republican National Convention…"
