Pennsylvania Governor Unveils New Arena Plan24 March 2006PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Gov. Ed Rendell said today he will unveil a plan Thursday to build a new arena without slots money. "'I think we're very close,' Rendell said of his fallback plan to replace Mellon Arena if the Penguins and their partners Isle of Capri Casinos, are not awarded a state slots license. "The governor plans to talk with NHL officials next week about the proposal. He declined to provide specifics. "Rendell has been working with Mayor Bob O'Connor and county Chief Executive Dan Onorato on the alternate plan. They have said it could include selling naming rights and seat licenses, collecting a parking surcharge at the arena and having the state pay up to $90 million…" |
