Pennsylvania governor commend board

20 December 2006

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today commended the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) and its chairman, Tad Decker, for the board's dedicated work over more than two years in reviewing and analyzing applications of 13 potential slot parlor operators vying for five stand-alone slot licenses.

Governor Rendell is expected to hold a brief media availability via conference call late this afternoon. Details will be announced when they become available.

The Governor issued the following statement in response to the PGCB's action:

"Over the past several months, Gaming Control Board members have thoughtfully reviewed 13 gaming license applications in accordance with the law, and they can all be very proud of their hard work which has laid the groundwork to ensure integrity in our burgeoning gaming industry.

"I have great confidence that the board thoughtfully analyzed each and every applicant, and chose the right slots operators on the merits to open for business in the commonwealth. Among other things, the board took into account the operators' reputation in the gaming industry, their financial suitability and the impact that they will have on local communities that will become home to these newest corporate citizens.

"Seeing the number of jobs created and remarkable economic impact Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs has already had on Northeast Pennsylvania, and learning that in the first day of operation Philadelphia Park generated $6 million in revenue, I think that nobody can question the tremendous financial benefit slot machine gaming will bring to Pennsylvania.

"Most importantly, the board's vote moves us one significant step closer to providing an historic property tax cut to Pennsylvania homeowners. As slot operators continue to come online across the commonwealth our property tax relief fund will grow exponentially to the benefit of the citizens of Pennsylvania."

The PGCB awarded licenses today to Philadelphia Entertainment and Development Partners, LP (Foxwoods) in Philadelphia, HSP Gaming, LP (Sugarhouse) in Philadelphia, PITG Gaming, LLC (Majestic Star) in Pittsburgh, Sands Bethworks Gaming, LLC in Bethlehem and Mt. Airy # 1, LLC in Paradise Township, Monroe County.

The Rendell administration is committed to creating a first-rate public education system, protecting our most vulnerable citizens and continuing economic investment to support our communities and businesses.
